Smart Meter Texas (SMT) is a system that helps customers track their electricity usage. It stores energy usage data and allows customers, their electricity providers, and authorized third parties to access this information. SMT includes a website and tools for homeowners and small businesses to monitor and manage their energy use. Customers can also give access to other service providers like energy consultants or brokers. Additionally, SMT shares this data with electric grid operators and regulators to ensure reliable service. SMT is managed by major Texas utility companies—AEP, CenterPoint, Oncor, and TNMP—under the supervision of the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT).
